Continuiamo a resistere all’isolamento con un’altro film da guardare insieme. I sistemi sanitari dei paesi colpiti dalla pandemia sono sotto enorme pressione, ma come sappiamo tutt* non è solo colpa del coronavirus, ma anche di decenni di tagli e austerity che hanno messo in ginocchio la sanità e altri servizi pubblici essenziali.

Questa domenica ci guardiamo The Spirit of ’45, un documentario di Ken Loach sulle condizioni che, dopo la devastazione della seconda guerra mondiale, hanno portato alla nascita del sistema sanitario nazionale britannico (NHS) e del welfare che oggi più che mai è sotto attacco, non solo a causa dei tagli e dell’austerity, ma anche dalla minaccia della privatizzazione della sanità e degli altri servizi pubblici. Oggi è più importante che mai far capire anche a chi non è ‘dei nostri’, a chi non è compagn* e/o militante, che non possiamo più permetterci di dare per scontato che quando ci ammaleremo ci sarà un* medic* pront* a salvarci la vita e un letto in ospedale e che dobbiamo prepararci a lottare affinché questo diventi un diritto di tutt*.

We keep resisting isolation with another film to watch together. The health services of the countries that are being hit by the pandemic are under enormous pressure but, as we all know, this is not just because of coronavirus, but it’s also due to decades of cuts and austerity that have put healthcare and other essential public services on their knees.

This Sunday we’re watching The Spirit of ’45, a documentary by Ken Loach on the conditions that, after the devastation of the second world war, brought us the NHS and the welfare state that today, more than ever is under attack, not only because of cuts and austerity, but also because of the threat of privatisation of healthcare and other public services. Today it’s more important than ever that everybody, even those who aren’t ‘one of us’, those who are not comrades and/or militants, that we can no longer afford to take for granted that when we get sick there will be a doctor ready to save our lives and a hospital bed, and that we must all get ready to fight to ensure that this becomes everyone’s right.

For those who weren’t “there” last Sunday, here’s how distance CinePop works. At 8pm (CEST) we’re going to post the link to access the film (1h 34 minutes) and from 10:30pm we’ll be online to talk about it with those who don’t just want to watch the film alone and want to share something with others in the comments on the event page.
